About This Item
Eleventh edition. Copy of David Dundas with bookplate.
Historiographer royal to Charles II, and author of many historical works, it is nonetheless this work upon which his 'enduring title to literary fame rests' (CHEL). Written during his imprisonment in the 'Fleet' in the 1640s, it is an engaging, subtle and largely fictitious account of the political and social conditions of the day.
