About This Item
Alfred A Knopf, publishers, New York 1995 hardcover, 6½" x 9½", with dust jacket VERY GOOD book in VERY GOOD unclipped dust jacket In the 1930s and '40s, Erskine Caldwell's impassioned work dealing with American's southern poor ('Tobacco Road', 'God's Little Acre') earned him wide critical acclaim. In 1960, he was under consideration for the Nobel Prize. He initially worked in abject poverty, but 'Tobacco Road' became a smash Broadway hit and the paperback editions sold in record numbers. Today, he is largely forgotten - this biography explains the man and his genre. Packed book weighs 1¼ kilos (3 lbs), slightly-higher-than-usual shipping will apply - we will gladly quote first.
