Chicago, Illinois: Chicago, IL: Esquire Magazine for Men, FEBRUARY 1942, Volume XVII, # 99, 1st Edition, First Printing, 1942. -----------magazine, a solid Very Good copy, all pages intact, fold-out Vargas girl is intact, super colour illustration by SZYK showing "The New Orderlies" depicting ghoulish armies of the AXIS --- Nazis, Italians, Japanese hordes, a Grim Reaper in a Gestapo uniform, vultures in the sky with Nazi swastikas on their wings ---really one of the great SZYK images, some of the articles include: When Golf is No Fun by Hogan; Winston Churchill's Strategy by G E W Johnson; Chariot in the Sky by Komroff; The Saga of Zela by La Farge; Strictly Business by Himes, and much, much more of course, Esquire Magazines at this time were produced with two kinds of paper, high quality glossy paper was used for articles with illustrations and photographs, some sections, especially the fiction were printed on more of a pulp paper, the sections of 'pulp' paper have browned as is often seen with these mags from this time, any image directly beside this listing is the actual book and not a generic photo. First Edition. Soft Cover. Very Good (see description). Illus. by Arthur Szyk, Alberto Varga ( Vargas ); James Chapin; Wesley Dennis; Walter E Bohl; Lawrence B Smith, et al.

London: Ward and Lock, 158, Fleet Street, 1865. Hardcover. Very Good. Octavo; vii, 216pp. In contemporary half leather over green cloth boards (a little rubbed and worn, remnants of early paper label to head of spine), five raised spine bands, gilt lettered leather spine label to second compartment, all page edges marbled, contemporary ink inscription to front blank, early library blind-stamp to first two leaves ('William Todd and Co. Library, Limerick'), light foxing to opening and closing leaves, unobtrusive light paper browning and occasional spots ans stains otherwise internally clean. Description:
v+321 pages. Small octavo (7 3/4" x 5 1/2") bound in original publisher's black cloth with gilt lettering to cover and spine. First British edition. St. Ives: Being The Adventures of a French Prisoner in England (1897) is an unfinished novel by Robert Louis Stevenson. It was completed in 1898 by Arthur Quiller-Couch. Unable to write, Stevenson dictated thirty chapters of the novel to his stepdaughter as a diversion from his debilitating illness. He alternated dictating St. Ives and The Weir of Hermiston but gradually lost interest in the former. The plot concerns the adventures of the dashing Capitaine Jacques St. Ives, a Napoleonic soldier, after his capture by the British. Condition: Corners bumped and rubbed, shelf wear, hinges and spine heal moderately rubbed, previous owner's name on front end paper else a very good copy.
