Lexington: Printed at the Reporter Office, 1829 & 1830. First Edition. Octavo (22cm). Contemporary half-sheep over brown buckram; 216,xxviii + 136pp; errata slip at end of second volume. Joints rubbed, briefly cracked at base of front joint; light soil and wear, generally a sound copy, foxed throughout but heaviest on prelims of first title; complete and Good. With private library bookplate (Bishop White Parish Library Association of Philadelphia) to front pastedown.

Dr. Cooke (1783-1853) was the third dean of the Louisville School of Medicine and gained fame for his curative powers during the cholera outbreak of 1833. The current two works were outgrowths of a profound religious conversion Cooke experienced around 1810, the circumstances of which are related early in the first volume. Cooke was the uncle of the Virginia novelist of the same name (1830-1886). AMERICAN IMPRINTS (Shoemaker) 38267 and (Cooper) 1009 respectively.
