"Dirt was fatal, not as dirt, but because contained living germs which are the cause of putrefaction". (Introductory Note). John Tyndall was considered one of the most influential scientists in the Victoria era. His experiments in microbiology and bacteriology contributed to the revolutionizing of the art of surgery.
