Boston: Houghton Mifflin, 1929. Hardcover. Very good condition. Signed presentation copy, with inscription by the author: "For Trainee Robert P. Patterson, with my best wishes and Highest regards, Your Plattsburgh friend, John Pell". Robert P. Patterson Sr. (1891 - 1952), Under Secretary of War under President Franklin Roosevelt, and a NY judge who served in WWI and received the Distinguished Service Cross for heroism in France. During WWII Patterson was appointed Secretary of War when Henry L. Stimson resigned.
8vo, xii, 331pp, b&w ills, maps at end papers. Green gilt cloth with gilt title at spine. In the original dust jacket; dj darkened at spine, bit ruffled edges, chipped at spine ends. The volume bright and clean internally.
