About This Item

New York: Funk & Wagnalls Company, 1928. Hardcover. Fair. New and enlarged edition. Quarto. xviii, 692pp. Plates illustrated from black and white photographs. Department of Home Economics, Temple University stamp and ownership signature of Gertrude Peabody on the front pastedown, additional stamps on the front free endpaper and dedication page, toning to endpapers, the cracked hinges have been mended, fold-out chart torn but intact, and significant wear to the exterior, thus fair. Dr. Gertrude D. Peabody was Temple University's Dean of Women. In 1930, Dr. Peabody introduced a new program at Temple with the aim to instill "social poise" into the students. It's not outrageous to draw the conclusion that this well-loved book was her teaching copy.
