He studied engineering, medicine and jurisprudence, and in 1933 received a Doctor of Law. As a senior staff member in Albert Speer's Ministry of Armaments , he secretly saved the lives of many Jews. Keller was planning a foolhardy attempt on Hitler's life in Berlin and organized a resistance group in 1945 and even briefly ran a pirate radio station against the Nazis. He was sentenced by the People's Court to death by hanging. With the help of high-ranking friends and bribes in the last minute before the scheduled execution in February 1945, he arranged a transfer to Fort Zinna , the Wehrmacht prison in Torgau. At the end of April Keller was there liberated by American troops from the 69th Infantry Division. After the war he worked as a journalist in Hamburg, while also working for the North West German Broadcasting Corporation. He contributed articles to Die Welt, Time, Stern and the New Illustrated News. He also used the pseudonym Norman Alkene. In 1955 he published The Bible as History which sold over 1 million copies in Germany and has been translated into more than 20 languages. It was his best-known and most successful book. ; mustard-colored cloth in pictorial dustjacket ; a few nicks on dustjacket ; some spotting here and there ; remainder mark on bottom of textblock, otherwise VG/G.
