New York: Scribners, 1901. 2 vol. set in very good conditon with inscription in volume I to Melvin L. Gray who managed Field's father's estate on behalf of Field who was considered by his family and contemporaries a spendthrift. Inscription reads: "To Melvin L. Gray, In recognition of the debt, I must always owe for favors and assistance in the making of this study of his eccentric and even lovable ward. With the grateful acknowledgements of Slason Thompson, Dec. 10, 1901.). A number of the Fields-Grey correspondence are contained in the two volumes.
