About This Item

New York: Lothrop, Lee & Shepard Company, 1971. Book. Illus. by Mirko Hanák. Very Good. Hardcover. First American Edition. Mild shelf wear and some foxing to the top edge of the text block. Faint bit of moisture stain at the foot of the spine noticeable on the blue cloth as a small darkened area. Light edge wear to the dust jacket with a few short tears. Protected now in a Mylar archival sleeve. 170 pages plus a Notes section that contains information about each of the works and their authors. Nineteen stories selected representing eight countries, translated to English. Favorites such as Snow White and Little Red Riding Hood are included with the not-so-familiar titles such as The Little Golden Fish [Russian] and Fanta-Ghiro [Italian]. Czech artist Mirko Hanák provides sixty beautiful full-color illustrations, including endpaper art, to accompany the selection of stories. Scarce in the First American Edition.
