The sole UK printing published by Etchells & MacDonald in 1928. Printed at The Chiswick press. One of only 300 copies, this one un-numbered. The BOOK is in Very Good++ condition. Light rubbing to the spine tips and a little toning to the spine and the spine paper label. Otherwise a tight clean copy. Some light offsetting to the blank end-papers. Free from inscriptions. Repeat pattern paper covered boards with the title on a paper spine label. Title page and 18 striking hand-coloured wood engravings by Hester Sainsbury to accompany the text which is described as 'specimens of laborious idleness based on five Spanish Novels which omit throughout one vowel in the alphabet, and a sixth containing one vowel only. Much trouble it costs to pen stories like these - Quoth a punster, 'How so? they are written with Ees.' Scarce. Protected in a removable Mylar archival cover. More images available on request.
