About This Item

Full opening double plates of Vesalius's Humani corporis fabrica t.p. on left and decorative t.p. f current work on right + printed t.p. + xii + 209 + (1, author's pub. list), 20 plates ex-pagination in main text + figs 100-117 from Vesalius as 'A Vesalian Atlas', 99 figs in main tex; clean and unmarked bar small brown splash mark top edge fr. end-paper which is also very fainlty tanned, main interest however is the engraved heraldic book-plate of Sir Cecil Wakeley Bt. 9ect) to front pastedown. Wakeley, 1872 - 1979 was a very eminent surgeon who served in the Royal Navy during the Great War, he was also, oddly, an ardent creationist. He was made a baronet in 1952, so this plate suggest he was not the book's first owner. 14,5 cm x 22 cm
