BOOK INFO: 'There is a widespread view in philosophy that existence claims should be understood in terms of the logic of quantification. It is the purpose of this monograph to examine, criticize, and present alternatives to this view. I will try to show that linking existence and quantification has undesirable consequences for both logic and metaphysics. I begin by tracing the history of this treatment of existence from its inception in the work of Frege to its culmination in the writings of Quine. While doing this I note various claims about existence construed in this way, e.g., that 'exists' is not a predicate.' -from the Introduction. Includes bibliography and index. Logic, Ontology, Predicate calculus
