New York: Macmillan & Co., 1870. Book. Good. Hardcover. First American Edition. Original green cloth, lettered in gilt on spine. Corners bumped and rubbed, some light marks on cloth, tiny chip at foot of spine, undated signature on blank prelim, good. Baring-Gould's second novel, an historical tale of the French Revolution. The first English edition, in two volumes, was published in Oxford in 1870, printed by Combe, Gardner, Hall & Latham, "Printers to the University"; this version in one volume, was produced by the same Oxford printers, for the American market, apparently at the same time..
