New York: Random House, 1958. Hardcover. 8vo. Green cloth, pictorial dust jacket. (x), 177pp. Illustrations, line drawings, pictorial endpapers. Near fine/very good. Mild bit of jacket wear. Tight, attractive "Young Readers of America Selection" book club edition of this volume in the "Landmark Books" juvenile series (#W-36) -- a lovely copy with a choice autograph addition: Tipped to the title page is a 4" X 1" slip bearing a typed "Yours faithfully," below which Douglas signs boldly in blue ballpoint. (Douglas, 1898-1980, was the noted long-time liberal Supreme Court associate justice -- the longest serving ever -- as well as a versatile writer, traveler, etc.) Notes the front jacket panel, "A story of the conquests of the highest and most perilous mountain range in the world.
