About This Item

London: Longmans, Green, and Co, 1900. Hardcover. [Copperplate map fixed to pastedown]; xli, 180p., two maps described below, hardbound first edition in cinnamon-brown cloth boards, 8.5x6.5 inches, eccentric and rather beautiful book design: smartly framed in blind and gilt, with an onlaid spine decoration (armorial). Signatures opened neatly throughout, fine coated yellow endsheets, slight edgewear to casing, hinges excellent, textblock mildly crimped (probably in bindery), one endsheet removed (neatly but noticibly). Nice copy. As stated, find two maps. In the rear find a folded 20thC map on machine-made paper, 10x14.5 inches, "The S.E. Coast of the United States and its relation to the British West India Colonies". It is laid down successfully; free endsheet opposite is long gone. Second map, "Jamaica Divided into Counties & Parishes," covers the front pastedown opposite a free leaf with a closed tear, this map a copperplate currently in clean shape, no tears, partings, creasings or markings, very detailed.
