About This Item
Santa Barbara: eye magazine, 1982. Original artwork. Velo binding. Fine. 59/140. Editorial signed by Jeff Greenwald, artwork signed by the artists. Quarto. Unpaginated. Original Velo binding with printed title and sketch in black on plastic cover. Extraordinary artist magazine published by Jeff Greenwald in the 1980s. Each of the 140 produced copies is unique. Cover with original artwork by Elaine Le Vasseur de Friez. This issue with signed original artwork by 27 artists including Sam Erenberg, Mary Heebner, Michael Petracca, Jim Risser, Elena Siff, Joan Tanner , and Michael Dvortcsak, among others. The artwork compiled in this issue was created specifically for "eye 2."
The issue "... features a few innovations over the premier issue. For one thing, it is (one hopes) permanently bound. Admittedly, this make it impractical to remove individual pages which might be "suitable for framing." On the other hand, it allows eye to preserve a sequence - or visual syntax - chosen from a rather astronomical number of possible permutations. Additionally, eye 2 provides a personal context - albeit minimal -for the participating artists. That is, most of the contributors are identified with a few sketchy sentences, either accompanying their work or in a special section at the rearmost quarter of the tabloid." (Jeff Greenwald). Binding and interior in overall fine condition.
