From the Preface: The author of these fables was brought at an early age under the influence of Voltaire, but preserved his own individuality. The Preface is an interesting read about the author. The stories are accompanied by interesting black and white illustrations by Grandville.
Fair condition. The cover is green cloth over boards with gold gilt lettering. All page edges are also gold gilt. The cover shows wear at the spine and corners and there is some staining. The end papers are a light olive green flower, calico-type of print. The inside covers has previous owners names in ink, plus a date of Nov. 19th, 1888. There is also a purple ink stamp on both end papers. The end papers are cracked at the spine, but the cover is still attached. Page 17/18 is partially loose from the binding and shows wear. The rest of the pages/binding is intact and the text is clean. Light page tanning.
