London: John Murray, 1833. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. 8vo. SIGNED with inscription by editor. lx, 248 p.p. Bookbinder's stamp of J. [Joseph] Mackenzie, Bookbinder to the King. Full green morocco contemporary binding with gilt lettering to spine and ornate gilt tooling with blind panels, inner edges dentelle. A.E.G. some rubbing to extremities, hinges cracking, some light foxing and staining, yellow staining to flyleaves, small tear to margin of p. xxxvii. Illustrated with 280 woodcuts, with a 60-page memoir of the author (the book was published posthumously). "These Fables, and the designs for them were the collection and study of many years of the author's life, who must be his own apologist for what might be by some considered a superfluous addition to our fabulous literature."--From the introduction.
