About This Item
London: Printed for Vernor, Hood, and Sharpe, 1810 Modern half calf, gilt, with black morocco spine label. Twelvemo. Copper-engraved frontispiece and numerous charming woodcuts in text. Frontispiece with some light dampstains in blank margins, nineteenth-century ownership signature on a preliminary blank. Overall a very good copy of an uncommon edition. The first edition of the William Coxe editing of Gay's Fables appeared in 1796. Curiously, all of the Coxe editions are scarce, with OCLC listing one or two copies of the first four editions, and five copies of the fifth and last edition, which was published in 1814.
