About This Item

London: Swan Sonnenschein & Co., Lim, 1906. First English language edition. Hardcover. Very Good. 3 vol. 8vo. [6], vii-xiii, [1], 2-339, [1]; [9], viii, [3], 4-196; [5], x-xii, [3], 4-308 pp. Brown publisher's cloth with gold lettering and two gilt rules on each spine. Publisher's device on the title pages. Volume one translated by Julia Gulliver and Edward Bradford Titchener; volumes two and three translated by Margaret Floy Washburn. Translated from the second German edition of 1892. The Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy, Kim, Alan, "Wilhelm Maximilian Wundt". First published in German in 1886, this is the first complete set of Wundt's Ethik in English. Wundt produced copious amounts of writing for 65 years. He conducted influential research on consciousness and other topics in the philosophy of mind. Wundt is also one of the founders of experimental psychology, and played a crucial role in developing the discipline, especially in the United States. The SEP notes that Wundt's "great ambition was establishing a philosophico-scientific system of knowledge, practice, and politics". The first edition in English of this set is difficult to find in commerce. A bit of wear to the cloth, two names in the set and an occasional pencil mark in the margins.
