Early bookplate of Thomas A. Brayton. Very good. First American edition, having first been issued in London in 1814, the fourth London edition in 1820 (its introduction included in this volume). PROVENANCE: Thomas A. Brayton was an American physician (fl. 1820-33). His papers are preserved at the New York Public Library (acquired in 1935). REFERENCES: Austin 753; Cushing F19; Wellcome III, p. 6 (2nd London ed., 1815). Heirs of Hippocrates 1091.
