The first edition, later state of Yeats' first published work as editor, Fairy and Folk Tales of the Irish Peasantry, issued as no. 32 of The Camelot Series. The majority of the tales presented were collected in the nineteenth century by folklorists such as William Allingham, T. Crofton Croker, Douglas Hyde, and Lady Wilde, mother of the playwright Oscar Wilde.
