Small octavo (18cm.); contemporary half calf over marbled boards, gilt-tooled spine in six compartments, black spine label, all edges marbled, marbled endpapers; xvi,560pp.; frontispiece signed in image by George Cruikshank. Scuffing to extremities with brief exposure at spine ends and corners, a few surface scratches to spine leather, spine gilt significantly dulled, textblock a bit toned, else a Very Good, internally clean and sound copy.

Topics are divided by geography (though Spenser's "Faierie Queen" has its own special chapter), with sub-sections on dwarfs and trolls, mermaids and mermen, and the wild-women of German lore.
