London: George G. Harrap & Company. Good+ with no dust jacket. [1916]. First Edition. Hardcover. A 45 x 20mm red stain to front margin of front board, slightly affecting front free endpaper. Boards rubbed. Some browning to spine. Four previous owner's names neatly spaced on front endpaper, 2 with dates - 1919 and 2005. Some splitting to gutters at endpapers. Captioned tissue guards present to the 15 colour plates in the main part of the text. Tissue guard torn at plate facing page 62. A few tissue guards with creasing. Plate facing page 102 has a 25 mm tear at lower corner. Plate facing page 260 has blank corner missing (chip is 40mm along longest dimension). Overall a good original unsophisticated copy showing signs of previous ownership but without any major flaws.; No date [1916]. 320 pages + 16 tipped-in colour plates (including frontispiece) + 24 black-and-white plates. Grey cloth boards with black illustrations on spine and boards. Oval paper illustration on front board. Top page edges gilt. Page dimensions: 278 x 191mm.
