London: George G. Harrap, 1932.. First trade edition, American issue. 4to. 287, (1) pp. Publisher's red cloth, gilt lettered and illustrated to the spine and upper board, pictorial endpapers, top edge gilt, dust jacket. 12 plates with captioned tissues plus black and white illustrations in the text. A few shallow chips to the upper edge of the jacket, several small tears without loss with shadows of tape repairs (now removed), an excellent copy overall. Latimore & Haskell, p.68. Riall, p.177. The American issue is almost entirely identical to the British, with Harrap's name on the title and copyright pages and the jacket spine but with the American publisher David Mackay's name in gilt at the foot of the cloth spine.
