About This Item
(New York): (Praeger Publishers), 1974. First edition. Near fine.. First paperback printing (simultaneous with the hardcover) of this classic and groundbreaking work on early NYC graffiti writers. Documenting some of the earliest New York graffiti artists (like the legendary Taki 183), FAITH captures the writers just before the Wild Style generation. While largely anthropological in its approach, Kurlandky and Naar's photography clearly paved the way for Martha Cooper and Henry Chalfant's more more intimate work in SUBWAY ART a decade later. With an essay by Norman Mailer, from which the book gets its title, a nice copy of a foundational work. 15.75'' x 10.5''. Original color pictorial wraps. [80] color pages with [16]-page black-and-white insert. Mild shelfwear only. Overall bright and sharp.
