About This Item

Cassell. New. 1998. First Edition. Paperback. 0304702617 . 200 pages including Bibliographical References and Index. This is a NEW book from the Hartford Seminary Bookstore; 0.59 x 9.21 x 6.04 Inches; We live in a culture which has broadly rejected the possibility of absolute belief in one over-riding truth. And yet we are surrounded by people who do believe, who indeed are often intensely religious, but believe in different things. This fragmentation of culture is a challenge to all major religions. Given that we live together, and given that many of our starting points are the same, even if our interpretations are different, how do we cope with the practical, day to day task of living and thriving in the same socio-political environment? This postmodern dilemma is addressed in this collection of essays by an international team of writers. In a postmodern age, can we believe at all? If we accept that we are no longer unique, where does that leave Christian spirituality? The writers explore ways in which the question of religion impacts on political life in Britain, South Africa and Israel. Other issues covered include gender, sexuality, ecology and Buddhist belief and practice. .

About Frenchboro Books

We handle books from academic libraries (from institutions and scholars), both deaccessions and gift books from alumni, and from closed Seminary Bookstores. Our original location was on a remote island in Maine, the Island of Frenchboro, and thus the origin of our name. For a time we operated a brick and mortar store in Bangor four days a week, and then moved that to the Antique Marketplace on Main Street in Bangor, which still caries some of our stock. The major stock of our business is now housed in Louisville, Colorado. Our listings can include a wide range of material, but the majority are non-fiction, scholarly works.
