New York: G. P. Putnam's Sons, 1887. First Edition. HB. Black cloth, gilt lettering on spine, 8vo, 130 pp. plus 4 pp. publishers ads at rear, patterned end-papers. Frontis portrait of Maximilian. Seaton Schroeder (1849-1922) rose to the rank of Rear Admiral in the U. S. Navy. Presentation copy with the inscription "General Townsend, compliments of the author" and dated 1887 on ffep. Townsend was most likely Edward Davis Townsend (1817-1893) and became adjutant general of te army. Further inscription stating that this copy was given as a gift by the daughter of General Townsend in 1952. No marks in book but for previous owner's stamp on front end-paper, binding tight. Book condition VG.
