About This Item

1889 Jules VERNE 1ed Family Without a Name Canada Rebellion Voyage Hetzel BEAUTY

"Reality provides us with facts so romantic that imagination itself could add nothing to them."

Jules Verne

Jules Verne's adventure novels are some of the most popular and famous works of literature of all time. Known mostly for his works of science fiction, 'Family Without a Name' is an adventure novel in the 'Extraordinary Voyages' series. It follows a Canadian family during the Canadian Rebellion in 1837 and the sons who fought in the battles. This beautiful, first edition Hetzel printing features 82 engravings of Tiret-Bognet's illustrations and a map.

Note on dating: like many other Verne first editions, the title page included was issued in each edition, including later printings. This particular edition of Verne's was published in 1889 – note the ads at the end advertising for the releases in the 1890 print year. This edition also features the two elephants at the top corners of the front cover, indicative of earliest Verne editions.
