About This Item
J. C. Nimmo & Bain, 1884. Early Printing. Hardcover. Good/NDAI (No Dust Jacket As Issued). 4to - over 9¾ - 12" tall. Paul Avril. Original publisher's sage green cloth covered boards with gilt lettering to spine, dark green printed decoration to front, bumped spine ends and corners, light edgewear, and moderate soil. Binding cracked in a few places, otherwise sound. Text clean. Deckle-edged and gilt topped text block. Text clean. Interior mildly toned, save for two pages which are unevenly acid-browned, apparently from an old piece of paper which was at some point tucked into the book. Minor, scattered foxing and smudges of soil to interior, mostly near page edges. Pages are thick, handcrafted paper watermarked with overlapping "A" and "O". Profusely illustrated by Paul Avril on every page of text with highly detailed monochrome headpieces, borders, etc. Early gift inscription in ink to second blank page. No bookplates, stickers or stamps. Not ex-library. I have seen one of this publisher's catalogs that mentions it was first available in October 1883.
