About This Item

Port Townsend, Washington: Ex Ophidia Press, 2015. First Edition. Hardcover with Dust Jacket. Fine/Fine. Stout 8vo. Pp. xviii, 795. Frontis. portrait. Index. Illustrated throughout with personal photographs and reproductions of printed works in black & white and color. Bound in gray-green cloth stamped with gilt lettering on the spine. Light brown endpapers. Chapter and section headings printed in brown. In the unclipped illustrated dust jacket. Inscribed on the half title. Laid-in is an 8.5 x 11 inch letterpress broadside, on good, thick stock, announcing a 2005 University of San Francisco lecture by Rummonds ("Abandoned by a Married Man The Long and Treacherous Path to the Iron Handpress") as well as a letterpress handbill announcing same, printed by the Greenwood Press. The inscription, to Rollin Milroy of Heavenly Monkey Press, reads "For Rollin - who understands the long, hard road to perfection. [signed] Gabriel". The American handpress master-printer reveals his trials, tribulations, recipes and "night wanderings" from New York to Buenos Aires to Verona and Alabama. Frank memoirs organized around the books he produced as Plain Wrapper Press and Ex Ophidia imprints. A superb association copy connecting two revered fine press luminaries. Dust jacket is now preserved in a clear, removable archival sleeve.
