Tarchetti, whose novel Fosca was the basis for Ettore Scola's 1981 film Passione d'amore; the stories in this book were the first Gothic tales published in the Italian language; includes an introduction by the translator Lawrece Venuti and illustrations by Jim Pearson; an appendix contains translations of two French Gothic tales and a memoir of Tarchetti by Salvatore Farina; inscribed, signed, and dated by Venuti on the half-title page (black cloth with gold lettering, gold edges, gray end papers, black ribbon marker; dust jacket has illustration by Pearson on the front; a bright, clean, tight copy)
