About This Item

New York: Doubleday, 1987. Near fine.. Signed limited first edition of this reboot of the story of miniaturized scientists venturing inside the human body - from the library of Hugo-nominated SF author and reviewer D. Douglas Fratz. Isaac Asimov reflects on his 1966 novel FANTASTIC VOYAGE - based on the film of the same name - in his introduction to this sequel of sorts: "I was never quite satisfied with the novel [...] I never felt it to be entirely mine." In FANTASTIC VOYAGE II, he makes the concept of miniaturization his own, placing much more emphasis on the scientific concepts behind the technology.
D. Douglas Fratz founded the "energetic" (Clute and Nichols, 451) science fiction news and reviews journal THRUST in 1973, which was renamed QUANTUM in 1990. His writing, publishing, and reviews earned him 5 Hugo nominations over his career. 9.25'' x 6''. Original red leather binding with gilt lettering. Gilt edges. Blue endpapers. In original red leather slipcase. Color frontispiece. Original red ribbon marker. 332 pages. Signed by Asimov and numbered 377 of 450 to limitation page. Yellow printed slip with description of Fratz provenance laid in. Slipcase with a hint of shelfwear, tiny bump to front edge. Spine with small abrasion. Sharp and bright.
