Constable, 1897. Hardcover. Acceptable. 1897. No Edition Remarks. 671 pages. No dust jacket. Green cloth with gilt lettering and designs. Vol. II. Rough-cut pages. Black and white photographic plates. Moderate foxing and tanning to pages and plates. More prominent to text block edges, pastedowns and free endpapers. Moderate cracking to gutters and hinges, exposing netting and causing some looseness to binding but pages remain attached. Boards have minor corner bumping and edgewear with heavy mottling, tanning and scuffing overall. Spine has similar tanning with soft splitting and crushing to ends. Lettering remains bright and clear. Book has a slight forward lean.

Description:
Harper and Brothers, 1897-01-01. Hardcover. Acceptable. Complete set of 2 volumes published by Harper & Brothers, 1897. These volumes are in poor condition with the front hinge being open on both volumes. The top of the spine cover on Volume 1 is torn and almost separated from the spine. A couple of the end papers on Volume 1 are free of binding and tucked inside. Name written on front endpapers of both volumes, but no text markings are noted. A fold-out map of the north polar region is tucked into the back of Volume 1. The text blocks and illustrations are all in good condition, but the binding is poor on both volumes.

Newnes, 1898. First Thus. Hardcover. Very Good. Slight rubbing to decorative boards which have a picture of the 'Fram ' in the ice. Boards are rubbed to edges but have no significant damage or wear. Internally there is very slight splitting to hinges, no inscriptions, numerous illustrations. Folding map to volume one is complete but slightly worn. Copious illustations, tex is clean with very little spotting. Happy to supply photos if required. This set will weigh over 2 kilos packed so will require considearble additional postage outside the UK. No additional postage in the UK.

This is the first American edition of Nansen's record of his polar journey during the period 1893 - 1896. Includes an appendix by Otto Sverdrup, the Captain of the "Fram". With approx. 120 full-Page and Numerous Text Illustrations, 16 Colored Plates in Facsimile from Dr. Nansen's Own Sketches, Etched Portrait, Photogravures and 4 Folding Maps. Both volumes well bound and in collectible very good condition. With gilt, green, red and silver decoration to the front panel of each volume. Prior owner name to the front endpaper of each volume. Minor staining to the endpapers of Volume One. A handsome set of books.
