New ork: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1938. Book. Near Fine. Hardcover. 1st Edition. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Original red cloth with a pristine black title block and gilt lettering on the spine, and black Hemingway signature printed on the front. No edge wear Inside, very clean and tight with no prior owner marks, no browning or stains to the paper. Dust jacket is NOT price clipped ($2.75), and has some edge wear and one small tear. Dust jacket is also faded some on the spine. "A" on the copyright page denotes a first printing. A superb collection of ALL short stories up to this time, plus his only play. .

Synopsis

Featuring Hemingway's only full-length play, The Fifth Column and Four Stories of the Spanish Civil War brilliantly evokes the tumultuous Spain of the 1930s. These works, which grew from Hemingway's adventures as a newspaper correspondent in and around besieged Madrid, movingly portray the effects of war on soldiers, civilians, and the correspondents sent to cover it.
