Chambers, 7 victories (1 balloon, 2 shared) , Capt. Edward V. Rickenbacker, 26 (5 balloons, 4 shared) , George Augustus Vaughn Jr. (13 victories (7 shared) , Lt. Douglas Campbell, 6 victories(1 shared) , Arthur Ray Brooks 6 victories (4 shared). DJ has light shelf-wear present to the DJ extremities. Bound in cloth boards with gilt titles present to the spine. Boards are lightly rubbed and worn. Arthur Ray Brook's bookplate present to the front pastedown with a note discussing when he read the book and the date of the death of his wife. Text has some text marks and notes present to correct the text. Binding tight and solid. Arthur Raymond Brooks (1 November 1895 17 July 1991) was an American World War I flying ace of the United States Army Air Service credited with shooting down multiple enemy aircraft. Among his most prominent achievements was when he single-handedly took on a squadron of German-flown Fokker (Dutch make) planes officially downing 2 of them in one aerial battle piloting his Smith IV Spad XIII. He was a pioneer in the development of radio navigational aids (NAVAIDs) used by pilots for location and navigation as well as air-to-ground communications. Brooks also participated in early endeavors to commercialize aviation as a passenger-carrying business and was one of the earliest commercial pilots involved with carrying mail (air mail) for the US Post Office Department.
