About This Item

Various Publishers, 1940s. Good. Vintage adult magazines featuring glamour photography of seminude female models and often packaged as a "study guide" for the amateur photographer/artist, with technical data and even centerfolds. First printings unless noted, stapled softcovers, cover prices and page count vary, color wrappers. These used airbrush ("retouch") techniques, and much of the posing naturally obscures otherwise censored areas. A wide range of publication styles is represented, as examples from different decades show a changing evolution in both design and censorship. Lesser condition overall, most with rubbing, toning, foxing, tiny pencil notes on the front, scuffs, small tears, stains, creases, and a few with missing or loose pages. For mature, consenting audiences. All Arts & Photos Album, Vol. 1, No. 1, Spring 1927, 71pp, Mary Mabery, Whiteley-Broady, Earl Carroll models; Good, heavy tears, creases, stains, missing a few pp. Amateur Screen Photography, 2/1950, 30pp; Very Good, tape ghosts. Art Classics Magazine, no date, 1930s, great duochrome throughout, 36pp, lots of Earl Carroll Vanities models, photographers de Mirjian, Herman, Henningsen; pages loose, wrapper det., appears complete. Art Models, Vol. IV, Greenwich Art Syndicate, Jacques Maison, no date, 1940s, 32pp; Good, wrapper nearly split. Ecole d'Art, Vol. 28, Greenwich Art Syndicate, Jacques Maison, no date, 1940s, 52pp, color cf; Good, heavy creases, a few pp with retouch in holograph ink. Gale's Artists Annual (Illinois), no date, 1940s No. 5, 64pp; Good, tape repairs. No. 7, 64pp, Good, tape ghosts. How to Draw from the Nude, Charles Hope Provost, National Library Press, 1937, 64pp, illus. and photos; Very Good, moderate foxing.
