About This Item

London: Faber and Faber, 1952. Very good (see scan for slight disturbance at the top of the covers; otherwise fine/pristine) in fine dust jacket (although price-clipped, it is bright and crisp). A beautifully illustrated book: eight colored prints enlarged from actual film; 40 full-page black and white closeups of the actors, followed by 8 pages of shots from the actual film arranged to be viewed from top to bottom of each column as if holding a roll of film. See scan for a glimpse of the atmospheric Peter Pendrey sketches made for the film and included within the text. The text, of course, is of Eliot's verse play itself. Eliot also wrote the preface which begins with his self-effacing comment: "Murder in the Cathedral is, I believe, the first contemporary verse play to be adapted to the screen. that is in itself a justification for publishing this film script, apart from the value and interest of the illustrative matter." 126 pages plus the 48 pages of black and white photos at the end.. 1st Edition. Hard Cover. Illus. by Peter Pendrey and photographs.
