Plain dark brown endpapers, tissue-covered frontispiece. Vice-Admiral Cuthbert Collingwood, 1st Baron Collingwood (1748-1810), was a close friend of Lord Nelson and served in the Napoleonic Wars, notably in the Glorious First of June, the Battle of Cape St. Vincent and the Battle of Trafalgar. Very light browning in the margins of the pages; some glue residue and surface paper loss on the verso of the frontispiece; scattered foxing on the verso of the free endpapers, on the half-title page and frontispiece - also on the verso of the last page; several corner creases on the frontispiece; a small tear archivally taped an a small chip on the frontispiece tissue guard, there is splitting of the paper on the inside hinges but binding is holding well; a dark foxing mark is in the gutter of pages 178 to 183; there are a a few places where there is a slight separation between page gatherings, but pages are holding firmly; dust staining to the top of the text block; browning to the fore-edge and bottom of the text block; a 1" split at the bottom of the rear hinge; corner bumps on the boards - some migration into the pages; wrinkling and light wear at the top/bottom of the spine; light edge wear and a few very small edge dents, slight variation to the colour of the board cloth..
