Peregrine Sark, village eccentric/egomaniac brings back a terracotta figure of Cybele to his English country house, and gets a little too involved in worshipping the deity. He falls in love with a young girl who moves to the village and is willing in an instant to sacrifice his wife and child for her with terrible consequences. Book is very good+ and bright.
