About This Item

[no place given, possibly Cleveland?], 1920. Very good. One photograph, measuring just over 6.5" x 4.5", and housed in a mount with a two-inch border. Photograph has noe been examined out of the mount, but appears to be in very good or better condition, with some faint marginal dust-soiling, otherwise clean and bright. The image depicts a group of firemen posing with what look like brand-new, or at least recently washed fire trucks - four of one kind, probably for transporting firemen, plus a larger fire engine, which probably contained the hose, and seems to have a ladder along the top. It is not evident where exactly the photograph was taken, and the city identified on a "Fire Dept" lamp above the station is simply too small to be read by our loupe. Based on the collection it emerged from, it's likely Cleveland or another Ohio city. There are two African-American gentlemen talking on the street just behind the posing firemen. A nice early 20th-century portrait of American firemen.

About Cleveland Book Company

We are proud members of the ABAA.

As a small, independent bookseller in Cleveland, Ohio, I deal in general used, rare, and antiquarian books, autographs, manuscripts, pamphlets, and personal and family papers in all subjects. My family has been in the antiquarian book business since 1971. Are you moving, downsizing, or doing some spring cleaning? Did you inherit or otherwise come into some old books? Or, maybe you've collected modern novels from the last thirty or fifty years. No matter what kinds of books you have, we'd love to take a look at them! We travel throughout Ohio, western Pennsylvania and New York, southern Michigan, and eastern Indiana, and will travel farther in some cases to look at whole libraries or even just a few particularly interesting books. Give us a call at (216) 352-3940 and we can talk more about the kinds of books you have.
