About This Item
Heinemann. Very Good in Very Good- dust jacket. 1931. Hardback. Dust jacket worn w/ a number of small splits, creases and losses at edges and on corners, lightly age-toned; Blue cloth boards rubbed on corners, gilt lettering bright; Pages age-toned, top-edge sprayed blue, spotting on bottom and fore-edges, more sparsely foxed throughout text block; Binding tight. As all of these stories are written in the first person, what they tell us is shown to be amusing to an onlooker, full of wise implications and hidden commentary; Maugham's conclusion appears to be that the most comfortable of all roles is that of a detached, unprejudiced and slightly ironical spectator. ; 5.1 x 7.5"; 307 pages .
