In this work of military writing, lieutenant colonel John William Thomason Jr. of the United States Marine Corps shares describes the battles to defend Paris from German troops in 1918. Through his vivid prose and illustrations, Thomason conveys how the Marines of the Fourth Brigade fought in at Belleau Woods, Soissons, and Blanc Mont. Prior owner's bookplate to the front pastedown. The book previously belonged to the library of Ronald W. Sargent. Prior owner's bookplate to the recto of the front endpaper. The book previously belonged to Henry I. Shaw Jr, who was an American military historian. He received the United States Marine Corps Meritorious Civilian Service Award in 1954 for his work in military history and was promoted to Chief Historian in 1962. Prior owner's ink inscription to the recto of the front endpaper, 'R. R. R.' In the publisher's original green cloth binding, protected by an adhesive plastic wrap. Externally, smart, with just some light bumping to the head and tail of the spine. Internally, firmly bound, with bright and clean pages throughout. Very Good Indeed
