About This Item

New York: Cowles Magazines, Inc. / Random House, 1952. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good+. Federico Pallavicini. Folio. Pp. 229. Lavishly illustrated with calligraphic drawings, black & white and color photo reproductions several folding out, die-cuts, tipped-in inserts, etc. Red cloth, titles and decorations stamped in gilt and white, die cut window, illustrated endpapers. Covers minimally soiled, leaves crisp and bright, binding tight. Cowles' extravagant high-society art style magazine was suspended at the end of its first year (1950) after losing millions for her publisher husband. It was resurrected just once for this Victorian gift-book-inspired volume with staff illustrator-designer Pallavicini and writer Robert Offergeld. A wide-ranging text & graphic delight with peek-a-boo cutouts, fold-out panoramas, bound-in booklets and fine color reproductions.
