About This Item
New York: Coward-Mccann, Inc. Very Good in Good dust jacket. 1958. First American Edition. Hardcover. Blue cloth, edge worn. Dust jacket unclipped with heavily worn edges. In protective clear cover. Pp 187. Flight to Afar is perhaps the most significant work of his career, published first in German unter the title Sansibar oder der letzte Grund. Andersch (1914-1980) was imprisoned in the Dachau concentration camp in 1933 for his communist activities. In 1944 he was sent to fight on the Italian front, but he deserted and was taken prisoner by American forces. His works have been said to serve as an analyst of contemporary issues for the post-war generation. In his works, he described, above all, outsiders, and dealt with his political and moral experiences. He often raised questions about the free will of the individual as a central theme. Flight to Afar is his first fictional work. ; 8vo .
