About This Item

London: Heinemann, 1924. First Edition. Hard Cover. First UK Edition. Publisher's stone-coloured boards with black lettering to the spine. A VG+ bright and clean copy. No D/W. Book appears to have been issued without a front end-paper. The pastedown side lists other recent fiction from Heinemann whilst the title page is at the very start where the free endpaper would normally be. Note: The basis for the 1935 Film Noir Mystery directed by Robert Florey starring Donald Woods, Margaret Lindsay and C Aubrey Smith. The film numbers among the first Hollywood movies in which psychoanalysis is a significant factor in the story. Author worked in Hollywood as a screenwriter and director with the infamous gangster film Scarface being one of his many credits. The UK first edition of this book is inexplicably uncommon. Photographs/scans available upon request.
