Boston: Roberts Brothers, 1871.. Octavo, pp. [1-4] [1] 2-252, flyleaves at front and rear, original pictorial blue cloth, spine panel stamped in gold, brown coated endpapers. First U.S. edition. "The Forest House" (a.k.a. "The Wild Huntsman") is a novella-length historical fantasy drawing upon Germanic folklore. This appears to be the first English-language translation of the story. An excellent translation. See Barron (ed), Horror Literature 2-25. Not in Bleiler (1948; 1978) or Reginald (1979; 1992). Cloth worn at spine ends and corners, cloth a bit scuffed and rubbed, lacks front flyleaf, inner rear hinge cracked, a good copy. A very scarce book. (#147785)
