More prominent to text block edges, pastedowns and free endpapers. Light creasing and staining to gutters but binding remains firm. Book is subtly bowed and forward leaning with minor tanning and scuffing overall. Spine has heavier tanning with soft crushing to ends.

Unclipped pictorial dustjacket features cover photo of men on donkeys in the desert, with black and red lettering. Dustjacket is missing a 1 1/2" section at bottom of spine and has some edgewear - it is now protected by a mylar jacket. Pencilled date and initials inside front cover. Heavy spotting to edges of textblock. The author (elder brother of author Ian Fleming, creator of "James Bond") travelled from Moscow to Peking in the mid-30's while researching a different book. The diary from that trip was relegated to a drawer and forgotten about until nearly 20 years later. 190 pp..

Publisher's hardback cloth binding in illustrated dust-jacket priced 30s. Some dustiness to edges, jacket lightly worn and rubbed. Very good. A 1935 diary kept by Fleming on an arduous journey through Ukraine, the Caucusus, Samarkand, Manchuria and Mongolia. Lt.Col. Robert Peter Fleming OBE was a British adventurer and travel writer, brother of novelist Ian Fleming, and unofficial editor of his James Bond books. He has often been cited as a model for the debonair secret service agent created by his brother. The present copy is from the comprehensive archive assembled by Jon Gilbert (pencil signature within). His encyclopaedic guide to the works of Ian Fleming (2012, published by Peter Fleming's daughter Kate Grimond) won the 16th Breslauer Prize for bibliography.
