1936. , 1936. (Photo, Framed) 6 medals on chest, holding what appears to be standard cavalry saber. Inscription around edges in Japanese translates as: "Presented to my esteemed friend Munson-gun/l March 1936/ Commanding officer 10th Field Artillery Regiment/ Masao Wantanabe" Translated by Roger Pineau. Frederick Munson the recipient of the photo was USMA '32, Japanese language officer, studied in Japan 4 years during the last he was assigned to the 10th Artillery Regiment. This photo was a formal present at end of the year. Munson later served on Halsey's intelligence staff in the South Pacific. Wantanabe was later CO of the 56th Div in 1940, CO of the 32d Army on Okinawa March - Aug 1944.. Signed by Author. Photograph. Fine.
